Dig Depp: V/A – O Cafona: Original Soundtrack – Som Livre

Marilia Pera – Shirley Sexy
O Som Livre – Bia Bia Beatriz
Betinho – Lucia Esparadrapo

Super busy right now, so here’s just a quick one, though a really nice one. Recently I was shopping on Ebay and came across a Claudette Soares record that I thought might have “Shirley Sexy” on it, a favorite of Clifton & Miles who run Funky Sole. While doing some digital detective work on youtube, I found a second version of the song by Marilia Pera, recorded a few years before the Soares version and thus, I figured, the original. Turns out it was a track on a soundtrack, but not for a film, it was on a soundtrack for a novela, basically a soap opera. I’d never even thought of digging for novela soundtracks, I mean they’re soap operas!!??! They couldn’t possibly have cool music?!??!! But I was very mistaken, and it seems there is a bunch of Novela soundtracks from this period, many featuring the work of Marcos Valle and Antonio Carlos e Jocafi, in one way or another. “O Cafona” seems like the best of the bunch, I could have easily pulled 5 or 6 tracks from this one, but these three will have to do for now. As if all the other places to look for records wasn’t enough, now I have to pay attention to soap opera soundtracks!

Cheers,

Michael

…Just as a bonus, here’s the opening sequence from the novela, definitely with the Carlos e Jocafi vibe…
