I hesitated for a brief period of time to do a show on “Lunacy,” mostly because of the negative connotations associated with the term. As someone who deal with mental health issues, I’m sensitive to how being called a “lunatic,” or “crazy,” can make someone feel. But I’m also someone who often sees the multiple sides of things and I’ve always appreciated those that society deems a bit odd and strange. Given that this show was broadcast during a full moon (or at least a virtually full moon if we’re being technical), it felt right to highlight “lunacy,” as a special feeling and state of being, that often leads to wild moments of creativity. Additionally, many of these songs are sitting in a special section of my record shelf in consideration for a long gestating “Weird Shit” mix, and so this show gave me a chance to hear how they sounded next to each other and the possible connections I might (if I eve actually get myself together enough to get the mix out) draw in that mix…”Lunacy’ is not likely to be a mood I’ll return to, but I’m thankful I did this show in the fashion I did and I hope y’all enjoy it.
