While I’ve mentioned that there will definitely be some moods/feelings that I return to through the run of Moods Of Free Time, June is the only month where I’ve committed to always featuring the same mood, Pride, in celebration of LGBTQ artists. For this year’s edition I decided to focus on the absolutely exquisite taste of one of my all-time favorite directors, Spain’s Pedro Almodovar. For those that don’t know, I am almost as much of a film obsessive as I am a music obsessive, and the many many many films of Almodovar are among my favorite. What has particularly drawn me to Almodovar’s films, since the very first one I saw in a theater back in 1993, Kika, is the way he melds the images with music. Few have done it better, and, as I mention in the final set of the show, some of my absolute favorite pairings of music and film have been created from the mind of Almodovar. So, here are a few of my favorite tunes from his films, curated with great anticipation for his latest film Madres Paralelas / Parallel Mothers, which will be released later in 2021.
